Back in 1987, I was caring at home for my first child, who was an ill preemie and needed my daily care, so I wasn’t working. Money was tight, and I didn't have the cash to decorate my home for my family the way I wanted to. I decided that even though I didn't have the cash to decorate my own home, I really loved decorating, and I wanted to start my own consulting business once my son was recovered. I began consulting for people, and quickly realized interior design was not exactly what I had hoped it would be. Most of my clients were more worried about impressing the Joneses. Not for me. So I went back to being a stay at home Mom, while continuing to decorate on a tight budget for myself and my family and friends. (We were military and moved alot, I got a lot of practice redecorating!) I even did some garden design consulting for awhile. (My other true love!)Then in the mid 1990’s, I saw a show that illustrated decorating without spending big bucks, and without the hoighty toighty attitude that was so not me. Even though the costs of their room redos were still far out of my budget, it sparked my imagination. I thought, “If they can do this, I can go one step further, and do something for those people who have had to struggle financially like we have, and help them make their homes wonderful for their families.” And so was born The Budget Decorator.Well, we’ve had a few downs, some great ups, and I’ve been able to take all that I’ve learned and transform it into this website.
